Education 2.1 | 「不一樣的教育」
二十年前,沒多少人能想像現今變幻莫測的世界,也沒多少人能預測智能電話和社交媒體的興起。那麼,未來的世界會是怎樣的光景?我們的教育又有為學生作足夠的準備嗎?

What does our children’s future look like? We have done interviews with children and try to understand expectations of their future. Is our education system broadening or limiting their options?

The 21st century has seen globalization, economy transformations, technology advancements, social disparity, generational differences, and a rising China – all of which have contributed to a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous future.

Hong Kong is the most international city within China, We should take advantage of our global knowledge and connection to shape our education, so that students are given the best learning experiences, and best prepared for the future.

Expand the space for learning, change the exam-oriented culture

Schools, teachers, parents and society at large should join efforts to cause a change in the exam-oriented culture and create more space for students’ active learning.

Create equitable multiple paths for further study
Increase subsidy to post-secondary education and subsidy schemes

Extend government subsidy to the whole spectrum of accredited post-secondary programmes (e.g. professional training), so that student could move freely across institutions and across levels.

Education professionals unleashing their potential

When students become active and self-actuated learners, teachers and schools face new challenges. Schools are seen as the facilitator of students’ active learning, and coordinator of diverse learning experiences. Teachers are seen as professional designer and advisor to students’ learning. As such, Hong Kong could become one of the most advanced metropolitan education hub.

Develop a “Big Education” platform,
optimize student experiences

We suggest the formation of a “Big Education” platform, with schools taking the lead, to connect various parties who are able to contribute to enriching the learning experience of students – government departments, higher education institutions, business sector, NGOs, media, religious and cultural bodies, so as to mobilize the whole spectrum of stakeholders, to participate, to care and to contribute to education development.

Conclusion

A mature metropolitan hub of education

Education is also a prime responsibility for the government. It is essential that funding to education is genuinely regarded as an investment into the future. We sincerely hope that our government would spearhead and invest in education and work together with the business sector, non-governmental organizations and parents to participate, to care and to contribute to education development.Let us work together, explore new directions and new paths, so that Hong Kong would become an even more mature and more equitable metropolitan hub of education.
